Install on your Mac.

Download, open, and follow a short setup. FIXME finds your project and your agents for you.

Requirements

  • A Mac with macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
  • An AI coding agent: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, opencode, Windsurf or VS Code.
  • For the phone helper, an iOS or React Native app in development. That's a separate step, and the heart of FIXME.

Download and open

  1. Download it.Download FIXME for Mac. It's a signed and notarized disk image.
  2. Move it to Applications.Open the disk image and drag FIXME into Applications.
  3. Open FIXME.It lives in your menu bar, as a //. There is no Dock icon.
FIXME in the Mac menu bar over the iOS Simulator. Option Space starts a circle, and saying FIXME, clip that, saves the last 30 seconds. FIXME in the Mac menu bar over the iOS Simulator. Option Space starts a circle, and saying FIXME, clip that, saves the last 30 seconds.

The setup

Four short screens. Everything FIXME needs is asked for here, once, and it won't ask again afterwards. Anything you skip stays quiet and can be finished later from Doctor in the menu.

  1. Welcome.A try-it demo of the circle.
  2. Your setup.FIXME looks for your project (from a running agent session, Metro, flutter run, Xcode or the Simulator) and connects the agents it finds. Each connection shows the exact line it adds and has an Undo.
  3. Allow FIXME on this Mac.Every permission on one screen, with Allow all. Screen Recording needs one restart of FIXME, which it does for you and picks up where it left off.
  4. Your phone.Adds the helper to your app, so you can circle on the device. See On your phone.

Permissions

macOS shows these in System Settings, Privacy and Security. Here is what each one is for.

PermissionWhat FIXME uses it for
Screen RecordingTo see your screen, so you can circle things in the Simulator or iPhone Mirroring, and to record the Simulator for clips.
AccessibilityTo paste the ticket into your agent's window and press Return for you.
MicrophoneTo listen on this Mac only when you hold the mic or say "FIXME, clip that".
Speech RecognitionTo turn your voice notes into text. This happens on your Mac and the audio is never uploaded. Voice on the Mac understands English.
Local NetworkTo find your phone on your network.
CameraOnly to record a plugged-in iPhone's screen for clips. FIXME never uses your Mac's camera.
AutomationOnly if you choose New Claude Code chat: to open a terminal tab in your project.

Your first fix

  1. Press ⌥ Space. The screen freezes. Open the iOS Simulator or iPhone Mirroring first if that's where your app is.
  2. Circle what's wrong.Draw as many circles as you like.
  3. Say it or type it.Hold the mic and talk, or type a short note.
  4. Press Send.Or ⌘ Return. FIXME pastes the ticket into the conversation it thinks is working on that code. Change it with the Sends to menu, and FIXME remembers per project.

From the Mac screen, the file and line is a ranked best match from the text on screen. From your phone it's exact.

Option Space dims the screen over the iOS Simulator and a pen circles the cut off price. Option Space dims the screen over the iOS Simulator and a pen circles the cut off price.

Shortcuts

Change any of them in Settings, Shortcuts.

ShortcutWhat it does
⌥ SpaceFreeze the screen and circle
⌥ ⇧ CClip the last 30 seconds
⌥ ⇧ RStart or stop a recording
⌥ ⇧ FOpen the FIXME menu
⌥ ⇧ VVoice on or off

In Clip Review: Space plays and pauses, ← and → step a frame, ⇧ ← and ⇧ → step a second, N jumps to the next event, ⌘ Z undoes a circle, ⌘ Return sends and Esc cancels.

Clip Review. The playhead snaps to a failed request marker, a circle is drawn on the frame, a note is typed and the clip is sent. Clip Review. The playhead snaps to a failed request marker, a circle is drawn on the frame, a note is typed and the clip is sent.

Connect an agent by hand

Setup does this for you. If you'd rather do it yourself, FIXME is an MCP server at http://127.0.0.1:47821/mcp. For Claude Code, run this once in any terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user fixme http://127.0.0.1:47821/mcp

For every other client, the config for each one is here. Restart your agent afterwards, since most read their MCP settings at launch. In Claude Code, /mcp should list fixme as connected.

Your license

  • Free allowance. Your first 20 tickets from your phone are free with no time limit. Circling on your Mac stays free at 5 a day after that.
  • After you buy. Polar emails your license key with your receipt, and it stays in your Polar customer portal. Open FIXME, Settings, License, paste the key and press Activate.
  • One Mac at a time. To use it on another Mac, open Settings, License there and press Move it to this Mac. You can move it twice in any 30 days. Deactivate frees it without moving.
  • Offline is fine. FIXME checks your license about once a day when it's online. If it can't reach the server, everything keeps working.
  • Updates. FIXME checks for a new version about once a day. Turn that off in Settings, General, Updates.

Troubleshooting

Open Doctor from the FIXME menu. It checks the device server, the MCP server, connected phones, agent setup and permissions, and gives a one click fix for each problem. Copy diagnostics puts a report on your clipboard, ready to send to general@getfixme.dev.

My agent doesn't see the FIXME tools

Restart the agent after connecting it. Check that FIXME is running in your menu bar.

The ticket went to the wrong conversation

Pick the right one from Sends to under the Send button. FIXME remembers your choice for that project.

I allowed Screen Recording but the screen is blank

macOS only applies it after FIXME restarts. Quit FIXME from the menu and open it again.

Nothing was pasted

Accessibility needs to be on for FIXME. Doctor shows it, and the ticket is always on your clipboard and in ~/FIXME/tickets either way.
